Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Retail Butcher to join PremYum, the retail operation of Parkhill Meats Limited, in Parkhill, ON. This role plays an important part in delivering high-quality meat products and excellent customer service.

Job Summary:
The Retail Butcher prepares, cuts, trims, and packages meat products for retail sale while maintaining quality, food safety, and presentation standards. The role also serves customers, supports daily retail operations, and completes routine records related to butchery and inventory.
This position currently reports to the President. Once a Retail Manager is hired, the position will report to and support the Retail Manager in daily retail operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare, cut, trim, bone, and portion meats (beef, veal, lamb, goat, poultry) for retail display and customer orders
• Package products accurately with proper labeling, traceability, and adherence to food safety standards
• Operate meat processing equipment safely (slicers, grinders, vacuum machines, etc.)
• Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service, assisting customers with product selection
• Ensure retail displays are well-stocked, organized, and visually appealing
• Inspect meat for freshness, texture, and quality while trimming to company standards
• Maintain clean and sanitary work areas in compliance with food safety requirements
• Support inventory counts, receiving, restocking, and reporting stock discrepancies as directed
• Complete routine inventory, labeling, traceability, and waste records accurately
• Record customer orders and special requests related to butchery; refer pricing, purchasing, staffing, and other management decisions to the Retail Manager or, until hired, the President or designate
• Follow daily work priorities set by the President or designate, and by the Retail Manager once hired
• Contribute ideas that improve efficiency, product quality, and customer experience
• Assist in training or supporting junior retail staff as assigned

Experience Required

Qualifications:

• Experience in meat cutting, trimming, and portioning
• Knowledge of meat cuts and preparation techniques
• Experience operating meat processing equipment
• Strong attention to detail and product quality
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a retail environment
• Knowledge of food safety practices (HACCP / CFIA) considered an asset

Working Conditions

• Refrigerated retail and processing environment
• Exposure to raw meat and processing equipment
• Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move meat products up to 25 kg independently
• Ability to perform repetitive cutting and trimming tasks
• Ability to work on your feet for extended periods
• Ability to work safely in cold and potentially slippery conditions

Compensation and Benefits

Wage: $21.60 to $31.25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
