Job Description

Primary work location: Thedford, ON, servicing Burgessville, Thedford and surrounding areas.

As a seasonal Drop Technician, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing fibre services directly to customers through testing, splicing, jetting, site mapping, and installations. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems in real time, and staying active. You’ll collaborate with contractors, schedulers, and peers while working with evolving telecommunications technology in the field.

You’ll build in-demand technical skills, expand your knowledge of fibre infrastructure, and gain valuable experience with industry tools, equipment, and best practices. For someone who is safety-focused, adaptable, and excited by a mix of independence, teamwork, and technology, this role offers a rewarding path in a growing industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Test fiber using an OTDR
  • Perform fiber jetting and splicing for drop cables, with potential assistance for trunk and distribution
  • Hand dig for service fiber cables to complete installations
  • Create detailed site survey maps to assist with drop burials
  • Operate fibre plowing and burial equipment safely on customer premises
  • Interact with outside contractors and peers to maintain current knowledge of progress and daily activities
  • Collaborate with scheduling to complete assigned work
  • Work with contractors to solve problems and keep process flow on track
  • Stay updated on changes to industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology
  • Travel frequently across coverage area and perform on-site visits
  • Implement or perform preventative maintenance on all tools and equipment
  • Adhere to company health and safety program in all related duties
  • Ensure vehicles and all equipment are properly maintained
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Working Conditions:

  • Work is often performed outdoors, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold
  • Requires physical strength and stamina, as technicians may need to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs, dig trenches, and perform manual labor
  • Frequent travel is necessary to various job sites within the coverage area, which may involve driving long distances
  • Work may involve hand digging and working in confined spaces or on uneven terrain, which can present additional challenges

Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Clear background check
  • Clearly identify cable colours
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products as required
  • Basic knowledge of telecommunication services

    Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Valid G class driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to work at heights, as it is a requirement of the job
  • Ability to lift up-to 50lbs consistently
  • Proven ability to identify potential problems and challenging situations
