Job Description

Job Summary: The G driver’s focus is customer service. The driver/delivery person is responsible for delivering products and/or supplies to customers, vendors, jobsites, or other locations. Duties include operating freight handling equipment, maintenance and operation of company vehicles, verification of administrative paperwork, and working with the public at large. The delivery person must safely perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the customers experience and the quality of the product(s) being delivered. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist all customers to the best of your ability and always seek help when needed.
  • Delivery products to customers.
  • Move heavy and bulky merchandise for customer and for sales personnel.
  • Assist in loading and unloading material and building supplies.
  • Assist in lumberyard as required
  • Take all necessary safety precautions when handling freight, tools and equipment.
  • Be familiar with the location(s) of all inventory and equipment in the lumberyard and retail store.
  • Report and shortages, damaged goods, and backorders to your manager.
  • Do odd jobs and run errands.
  • Perform light vehicle maintenance (check oil, etc.)
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records.
  • Check delivery documents.
  • Report company vehicle maintenance needs to your manager.
  • Follow company procedures regarding required signatures, forms, receipts, etc.
  • Report complaints from customers to management.
  • Follow all safety precautions when operating company vehicles and loading and unloading freight.
  • Be alert for sales opportunities.
  • Follow all delivery and receiving procedures and company policies as determined by ownership.
  • Follow proper documentation procedures for any merchandise that is to be returned or refused.
  • Maintain proper security over merchandise and delivery documents.
  • Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by manger.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, management and other employees in person or by telephone.
  • Must safely operate loading, unloading and transfer equipment (pushcarts, pump carts, etc.) as well as company vehicles. Must safely secure cargo.
  • Must maintain a good driving record and lawfully operate all company vehicles used to make deliveries.
  • Must move excessive weight to or from company vehicles in the delivery process.
  • Must maintain a current driver's license

  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behaviour to general manager to have the situation corrected.
  • Attend store meetings and training sessions, etc. as required.
  • Maintain safety training certifications annually or as advised.
