Job Description

The Sales Representative is responsible for driving profitable revenue growth through new account acquisition and active management of protein customers. This role is execution-focused, results-driven, and accountable for converting opportunities into consistent, repeat meat and protein sales while maintaining strong customer relationships.
Success in this role is measured by revenue growth, gross margin performance, order accuracy, customer satisfaction, and retention.

Duties and responsibilities
New Business Development
Proactively identify, prospect, and secure new customers across targeted segments, including:
• Restaurants (independent and chains)
• Institutions (schools, hospitals, long-term care)
• Major retailers
• Foodservice operators
• Meat wholesalers and distributors

Convert leads into active, recurring buying accounts.
Identify opportunities for volume programs, standing orders, and contract business.
Apply persuasive sales techniques to close deals and manage objections effectively.
Account Management & Revenue Growth

Fully own assigned accounts and be accountable for:
• Consistent order flow
• Volume growth
• Product mix optimization
• Gross margin performance

Build and maintain strong, long-term customer relationships through regular in-person visits, calls, and follow-ups.
Expand wallet share by introducing additional proteins, cuts, or programs.
Consult with customers post-sale to resolve issues and ensure satisfaction.

Product Knowledge & Strategic Selling
Maintain strong knowledge of products, cuts, specifications, and applications.
Sell strategically based on:
• Cut availability
• Carcass utilization
• Inventory position
• Margin and operational realities
Stay informed on promotions, pricing guidelines, and market trends.

Provide product samples, catalogs, estimates, and proposals as required.
 

Order Execution & Fulfillment Coordination
Accurately capture customer orders, ensuring correct:
• Product codes
• Specifications (cut, trim, weight range, pack size)
• Delivery dates and instructions
Coordinate closely with operations and fulfillment teams to ensure orders are executed as sold and customer expectations align with production and inventory realities.
Proactively manage shortages, substitutions, or changes prior to delivery.

Inventory Awareness & Accuracy
Maintain awareness of inventory availability by protein, cut, and production schedule.
Verify order accuracy pre- and post-delivery to minimize credits, claims, and disputes.
Sell in alignment with plant capacity and profitability objectives.

Sales Discipline & Reporting
Maintain organized sales plans and accurate account and customer records.
Participate in scheduled sales meetings prepared with updates on accounts, opportunities, and risks.
Meet or exceed assigned sales objectives as established through performance planning and goal-setting processes.

Other Duties, as assigned.

Experience Required

Qualifications
• Experience in meat sales, protein distribution, or a combination of sales and industry experience.
• Foodservice, restaurant, retail, or wholesale experience is an asset.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to understand customer needs, target segments, and market trends.
• Proficiency in English; multilingual candidates encouraged.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn.

Working conditions
• Fast-paced office, customer-facing, and production environment
• Regular in-person customer visits required
• Occasional handling of product samples
• Travel within assigned territory required

Physical requirements
This role requires regular travel, in-person customer visits, and occasional handling of product samples.
