Job Description
Under the direction of the Manager of Public Works, or designate, the Public Works Operator 2 is a truck driver with a DZ Licence, operates a backhoe and loader along with the operation of snow removal equipment and heavy machinery. Also responsible for cemetery locates and interment preparation. Performs duties related to the maintenance and construction of the municipal roads system, including roads, bridges, culverts, drainage, sidewalks, traffic control, and other road/property work.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to: dump truck, backhoe and loader
- Operate dump truck with snowplow/ sander equipment.
- Perform various road maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, sidewalk cutting, ditching work, and patching of damaged road surface.
- Perform road maintenance duties by removing litter, stones, trees, and other debris from roadways, bridges and other areas.
- Participate in work site safety tasks, including setting up of barricades, flagging to ensure safety zone, installation of safety signs, road signs, and signal equipment.
- Perform cemetery duties as assigned.
- Reports deficiencies in road related matters.
- Maintain an inventory of municipal equipment and perform light maintenance and cleaning.
- Maintain municipal roads during winter months by sanding and salting of roads or Job Description Public Works Operator 2 sidewalks, snowplowing and shoveling.
- Ensure that proper safety precautions, including signage, are maintained for the duration of the job.
- Ensure the confidentiality of all information in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Responsible to adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Municipal Health and Safety Policy.

Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. Experience
- Five (5) years related experience involving road maintenance.
- Knowledgeable and experience in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazard Material Identification System ( W.H.M.I.S.), and Traffic Control
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent • Must possess and maintain a Class D-Z licence.
Knowledge/ Skill/Ability
- Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of the operation of heavy machinery and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with public in a polite and courteous manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision and as a member of a team.
