Job Description
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to: dump truck, backhoe, loader, and grader.
- Operates dump truck with snow plow/sander equipment.
- Perform various road maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, sidewalk cutting, ditching work, and patching of damaged road surface.
- Perform road maintenance duties by removing litter, stones, trees, and other debris from roadways, bridges and other areas.
- Participate in work site safety tasks, including setting up of barricades, flagging to ensure safety zone, installation of safety signs, road signs, and signal equipment.
- Perform cemetery duties as assigned.
- Performs road patrol and documents and reports deficiencies in road related matters.
- Maintain an inventory of municipal equipment and perform light maintenance and cleaning.
- Maintain a good condition of roads during winter months by sanding and salting of roads or sidewalks, snow plowing and shoveling.
- Ensure that proper safety precautions, including signage, are maintained for the duration of the job.
- Ensure the confidentiality of all information in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Responsible to adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Municipal Health and Safety Policy.
- Performs other duties as required.

Education
Experience Required
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum – Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a Class D-Z licence, AZ licence is preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years related experience involving road maintenance
- Knowledgeable and experience in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazard Material Identification System (W.H.M.I.S.), and Traffic Control
Technical Skills
- Must have a thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the operation of heavy machinery and equipment
- Must have a demonstrated ability to deal with public in a polite and courteous manner
- Must have a demonstrated ability
