Job Description

Position Summary

Custodians are responsible for keeping the Komoka Wellness Centre facility in a clean and orderly condition. Custodians also provide frontline customer relations with members of the public, taking complaints and notifying Facility Operators of issues when required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming, following procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors.
  • Gathers and empties trash and recycling as needed.
  • Services, cleans, disinfects, and stocks restrooms and showers using hand and power cleaning equipment.
  • Cleans windows, glass, partitions, and mirror using cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Dusts, cleans, and polishes furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Sets up, arranges, and removes decorations, tables, chairs to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
  • Monitors building security and safety by locking doors and notifying the Facility Operator of suspicious behaviour.
  • Performs light grounds maintenance, such as gardening, and assists with snow removal.
  • Notifies Facility Operators about need for repairs or concerns with building conditions.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints and deals with all contacts in a courteous, friendly, and efficient manner to promote a high standard of customer service and public relations.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the on-duty Facility Operator and/or Operations Supervisor or Manager of Community Services as relevant to the position.

Education

Secondary School Diploma

Experience Required

Experience

  • 1-2 years of progressive experience cleaning in industrial and commercial environments.
  • Customer service experience in dealing with members of the public.

Specialized Training & Licences

First Aid CPR, WHMIS and various safety training considered an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Good communication, interpersonal, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Knowledge of relevant Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.

Other Requirements

  • Minimum of a valid Ontario class G driver’s license in good standing.
  • Criminal Records Check.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Able to lift 18kg/40lbs (e.g. garbage, janitorial supply boxes, tables, chairs).
  • Able to complete physically demanding tasks such as walking, stairs, cleaning, mopping, setting up/taking down chairs.

Hours & Conditions of Work

This is a 6-month part-time position and normal work hours are varied and include evenings and weekends.
This position primarily works at the Komoka Wellness Centre and is primarily indoors with constant physical work and some work completed outdoors. The use of Personal Protective Equipment is required and supplied when prescribed. This position works with potentially hazardous cleaning products controlled under WHMIS.
