Job Description

Summary: The ADS Thorndale Equipment Development Team (‘EDT’) designs and builds custom automated machines and is searching for an individual who has a passion for welding in a team environment.

The position requires someone with experience in fabricating frames and machine components, reading blueprints, tack-welding parts, and utilizing welding skills (primarily MIG welding) to meet precision specifications. The candidate must be able to prepare, align, and secure materials using clamps and basic jigs, to achieve the required part geometry while adhering to safety protocols. Frame welding is the primary job requirement; however the role requires flexibility to be able to work in other areas of the shop from metal breakout, machining or assembly. Role reports to the EDT Production Manager.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work safely and follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Practice Continuous Improvement and 6S, including housekeeping and participation in Daily Management process
  • Read, interpret, and work from engineering blueprints, sketches, and specifications
  • Align, clamp, and securely hold metal components (plates, pipes, structure) in place prior to welding
  • Utilize MIG (GMAW) to weld components in various angles and positions
  • Utilize grinders, torches, and plasma cutters to prepare joints, remove defects and finish products
  • Verify accurate assembly dimension and weld quality using tool such as calipers and measuring tapes
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on welding machines, torches and safety equipment
  • Safe and competent care of forklift, tools, and department specific equipment and tools
  • Understand and practice ADS CORE VALUES and ADS LIFE SAFETY PRINCIPLES

Education

Secondary School Diploma

Experience Required

Preferred Experience:

  • Trade school certificate or post-secondary diploma/certificate
  • 456A certification or CWB
  • Welding experience
  • Previous Manufacturing environment experience

Physical Requirements:
 

  • Provider their own basic hand tools and tool box
  • Ability to lift up to 20kgs and ability to lift 5kgs on frequent basis
  • Ability to perform physical labour for extended periods of time
  • Position requires full range of body motion, including twisting, bending, reaching, squatting and ability to mount/dis-mount industrial equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to stand and be mobile for up to ten continuous hours per shift
  • Ability to use hands, arms and legs to handle and transport products
  • Ability to work outside in all elements and weather conditions, as needed
