Job Description
We are a growing (no pun intended) tree farm in Coldstream, Ontario, at 10326 Hedley Drive, Middlesex Centre, N0M 2A0, and primarily we plant trees (potted, though more often large wire basketed stock) in the surrounding area, and in places as far as St.Thomas and Grand Bend. We work mostly for residential clients, though sometimes commercially. There is also a component of tree farm maintenance involved, such as weeding, trimming, mulching, irrigation, etc, and the opportunity for a foreman position with experience or willingness to show responsibility with driving small machinery (tracked machine, tractor) and small truck and trailers.
Typical work involves heavy and/or consistent physical labour in a variety of weather conditions, tree planting, lifting heavy loads, loading and offloading trees and aggregate materials, and interacting with fellow workers in a small crew environment. Sometimes working independently, as well as interacting with clients and meeting client and work specifications.
Education
Experience Required
Must be eligible to work in Canada (Ontario).
Experience or willingness to work consistently in a physically demanding environment in a variety of weather conditions.
Reliable transportation to and from the tree farm as well as remote work locations.
Valid G driver's licence and clean driving record.
Strong attention to detail.
The ability to work well independently with instruction, and with others in a small crew setting.
The following are assets, though not required:
Prior experience in horticulture, landscape maintenance, or arboriculture (though training provided).
Certified first aid.
Compensation and Benefits
$22-$28 per hour, depending on position of labourer or foreperson, and depending on roles of responsibility.
