Position Title:            Energy Assistant (Contract until March 31, 2027)

Department:               Public Works

Hours of Work:          37.5 hours per week working onsite 8:30am – 4:30pm

Summary:

The Energy Assistant supports the development and delivery of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation (COTTFN) clean, low-carbon, and sustainable energy initiatives. Working closely with the Community Energy Coordinator, the Energy Assistant helps plan, coordinate, and implement community-based projects focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency (e.g., home retrofit initiatives and solar power opportunities), while supporting capacity building and community engagement.

This position provides technical and administrative support to advance the Energy Program, including maintaining project documentation, supporting meetings and communications, tracking timelines and deliverables, and assisting with reporting requirements tied to program and funding agreements. The role includes paid training and professional development opportunities, and may require occasional travel for conferences, training, and networking.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in capacity-building activities (online workshops, training modules, and professional development) related to renewable energy and community energy planning.
  • Support the Community Energy Coordinator in developing and implementing the COTTFN Energy Program and associated project initiatives.
  • Provide project coordination support (e.g., work planning, timelines, task lists, tracking deliverables, and supporting timely implementation).
  • Assist with community engagement and communications related to energy initiatives (e.g., drafting notices, supporting outreach, preparing presentation materials).
  • Support program logistics for project implementation, including coordinating meetings with internal departments, community members, and external partners.
  • Provide technical and administrative support such as document preparation, basic data entry, maintaining project files, and organizing records for audit-ready documentation.
  • Assist with energy initiative research (e.g., basic research on energy efficiency measures, renewable energy options, funding opportunities, and best practices for Indigenous communities).
  • Support conference and training attendance logistics (e.g., registrations, travel coordination, note-taking, and sharing learnings with the team).
  • Complete reporting and documentation requirements as directed, including requirements associated with program funding or partner agreements (e.g., participant reporting).
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism when handling community, partner, and organizational information.

Education

GED

Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent preferred.
  • Post-secondary education or training in community development, sustainability/environment, energy systems, business/administration, or a related field is an asset.
  • Commitment to completing paid training modules and capacity-building activities is required.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable energy and community development, including advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives in Indigenous communities.
  • Proficiency with computers and common software (email, internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong reliability, time management, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to present ideas clearly and logically.
  • Experience supporting community projects, committees, events, or program delivery is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently (including remotely) and collaboratively in-person with a team.
