Job Description

Second Chance Community Store (owned and operated by Strathroy Community Christian School) is seeking a dynamic, high energy, full time Labourer with the potential to be mentored into a leadership role for our store located at 24661 Adelaide Road, Strathroy.

Who we are:

Second Chance Community Store is a registered charity store and has operated for more than 10 years in our community, selling used appliances, furniture, antiques, house hold décor items and more. We are a registered charity in support of Strathroy Community Christian School. We aim to be the first choice in our area by maintaining high standards for the types of goods we sell as well as the customer service we provide. We are a volunteer-supported organization with a few paid staff.

Who we are looking for:

You are a dynamic, energetic, friendly and outgoing individual with great customer service skills, retail management experience, and the ability to work positively with others. You understand and love the culture of thrifting, upcycling and recycling. You are passionate about Christian education, you enjoy people, thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to assist in leading our volunteer team. You will be assisting the General Manager in all aspects of the daily operation of the store, including, but not limited to:

  • Lead and model exemplary customer service
  • Good communication skills, detail oriented
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Work with and support our volunteers and staff
  • Prioritize safety and safe operating procedures
  • Open and closing tasks
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Kijiji) and Word / Excel programs
  • Receive donations, assessing quality and repair needs
  • Creative thinking – painting, refinishing, repairing donations, ability to think of and try new ideas
  • Pick up and deliveries of furniture and appliances
  • Valid G licence with truck and trailer experience
  • Able to submit a police check and clean drivers abstract
  • Support the vision and mission of the store organization; which is to support the work of Strathroy Community Christian School and the be good stewards to God’s creation

You will be on your feet and moving for most of the day. Being able to lift heavy items and moving furniture with proper equipment and lifting techniques is required.

  • A valid G licence, the ability to drive a pickup truck with trailer and having a clean drivers abstract is essential.
