Registered Early Childhood Educator (Contract)

Please note this opportunity is for a 17-month contract covering a maternity leave. 
 

Summary:

The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) provides nurturing, inclusive, and culturally grounded early learning and care for children within the Enji Maajtaawaad Early Years Centre. Working in partnership with families, colleagues, and community partners, the RECE creates developmentally appropriate, play-based, and language-rich learning environments that reflect Anishinaabe culture and values. The RECE follows all requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, and the policies and procedures of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation (COTTFN).

Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement, and evaluate inclusive, play-based programs that promote children’s engagement, exploration, and expression.
• Embed Anishinaabemowin and Anishinaabe culture into all learning environments and daily routines.
• Observe, document, and assess children’s development using a variety of pedagogical approaches (e.g., How Does Learning Happen? and the Four Foundations of Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, and Expression).
• Supervise and ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all children in care.
• Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues through open, respectful communication and collaboration.
• Model positive behaviour guidance strategies that support self-regulation, problem-solving, and social skills development.
• Adapt curriculum and activities to support full participation of children with diverse needs and abilities.
• Collaborate with families and community partners to access resources and supports for children.
• Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, incident reports, and developmental documentation.
• Participate in professional learning, language development, and team meetings.
• Ensure compliance with all CCEYA, health and safety, and licensing requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all interactions.

Qualifications:

• Preference for candidates with a diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution and a member in good standing with the College (CECE)
• Minimum 1–2 years of experience working in an early learning or childcare setting
• Experience working with First Nations children, families, or communities is an asset
• Proven interest or ability to learn and integrate Anishinaabemowin (language learning support provided)
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check (within 6 months)
• Up-to-date immunization and/or health assessment
• Safe Food Handling Certificate (asset)
• Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and $1M auto insurance (asset)
