Job Description

The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is currently accepting applications for one (1) seasonal full-time “Engineering and Public Works Student.”

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Public Works, this position will support the ongoing gathering of data and maintenance of data within the Engineering and Public Works department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with municipal infrastructure (water/wastewater/stormwater/public works) data collection in the field.
  • Input existing data, collected data and additional information into various computer programs (excel, work order system)
  • Scan, compile and organize as-built municipal drawings in the department network
  • Compile and digitize operational and maintenance and facility information
  • Compile and organize various drawings of municipal infrastructure
  • Record data and data editing of municipal infrastructure
  • Complete traffic counts on Municipal roads
  • Complete sidewalk inspections
  • Complete tree inventory
  • Public and worker safety through due diligence, safe equipment operation and applying safe work methods and procedures
  • Assist in the development and preparation of maintenance procedures
  • Maintain a positive public image working with or in view of the general public
  • Actively participate in the staff meetings and training discussions
  • Ability to work individually and as a member of the team
  • Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time

Education

Post Secondary Education

Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a College or University Program or Co-Op Program (Engineering or Environmental Science Technology preferred)
  • Previous applicable knowledge and/or experience with the Microsoft suite including excel and word
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and time management
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ability to use computers, scanners and related software
  • Minimum class “G2” Ontario Driver’s Licence or equivalent with a satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Must be able to work in the field to collect data and information
  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to starting employment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation:

Wage: Band 1 – $17.75 - $22.19 per hour (2025 rates)
