Job Description

Second Chance Community Store (owned and operated by Strathroy Community Christian School) is looking for an able-bodied, friendly and outgoing general labourer with outstanding customer service skills, and the ability to work positively with others. This position is physically demanding and requires working on Saturdays.

Who we are:

Second Chance Community Store is a donation centre and retail store that has been in operation for over 10 years in our community. We accept gently used furniture, hardware, tools, appliances, antiques and much more. We are a registered charity in support of Strathroy Community Christian School. We aim to be the first choice in our area by maintaining high stands for the types of goods we sell as well as the customer service we provide. We are a volunteer-supported organization with a few paid staff members.

Who we are looking for:

You are a dynamic, energetic, friendly and outgoing individual with great customer service skills, retail management experience, and the ability to work positively with others. You understand and love the culture of thrifting, upcycling and recycling. You are passionate about Christian education, you enjoy people, thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to assist in leading our volunteer team. You will be assisting the General Manager and Assistant Manager in all aspects of the daily operation of the store, including, but not limited to:

  • Ability to lifting and move large furniture and appliances, hauling metal, wood & waste to designated areas. 
  • assisting in receiving donations and moving items from receiving area to the floor
  • organizing, tidying and cleaning donations and all aspects of the retail store space
  • pickups and deliveries of donations
  • interacting with and assisting customers
  • working with and supporting our volunteers and staff
  • running the cash register and handling cash from time to time
  • enjoy working on a team, but also be able to work independently
  • prioritize safety and safe operating procedures
  • able to submit a police check and a clean drivers abstract
  • supports the vision and purpose of the store, which is to support Strathroy Community Christian School

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $17.60/hour. May be eligible for pension and benefits.
