Job Description

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision and mentorship of the Human Resources Generalist, the Human Resources Student will assist the Human Resources Team with various aspects of Human Resources as well as receive hands-on experience with various Human Resources functions and practices.

As a member of the Municipal team, each employee is responsible for serving the citizens of Strathroy-Caradoc by meeting the ratepayers’ needs and expectations, as articulated by Council, by striving to be the best in everything we do through attitude, training and creativity, and for representing the Municipality as a strong, integrated organization dedicated to quality, sustainable and viable services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with full-cycle recruitment, including preparing job postings and external job advertisements
  • Assist with new hire orientation, in-house and external training for staff
  • Assist with data entry of employee information into database and maintain human resources information and related records systems
  • Assist with daily human resources duties including participating in meetings, researching human resources best practices, maintaining and updating human resources manuals, computerized filing and paper based file system ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Using various software, create and prepare reports and documents relating to HR activities
  • Assist with Health & Safety initiatives
  • Maintain a positive public image working with or in view of the general public
  • Ability to work individually and as a member of the team
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of the Municipality
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive employee information
  • Possess a positive attitude and is a self-starter
  • Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time
     

Education

Post Secondary Education

Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary Human Resources or related program
  • Understand and have some knowledge of all relevant legislation and regulations (i.e. Employment Standards, OHSA, Labour Relations, Human Rights etc.)
  • Previous experience in Human Resources an asset
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Minimum valid class “G2” Ontario Driver’s Licence or equivalent with a satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Ability to manage own time effectively along with the ability to organize multiple priorities
  • Computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual meeting platforms
  • Excellent customer service, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to starting employment
