Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Maintenance Assistant is an organized, efficient, and detail-oriented individual who possesses excellent communication skills. As a key member of the maintenance team, the Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Supervisor in managing spare parts and consumables to minimize downtime, ensuring efficient production and maintenance operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Manage inventory and supply levels, ensuring accurate counts, proper organization, and timely updates to work orders to minimize production downtime.
- Support the Maintenance Supervisor by scheduling and coordinating maintenance-related training, contractor activities, and ensuring compliance with company policies and sign-off requirements.
- Oversee the use of the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) by employees, ensuring that data entry and report generation are accurate and up-to-date.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure the timely completion of paperwork, make informed supply purchase decisions, and address any material issues promptly.
- Ensure an adequate supply of spare parts, addressing any inventory discrepancies, and collaborating with the Operations Manager to resolve issues.
- Contribute to a clean and safe work environment by adhering to and promoting health, safety, and environmental regulations, including reporting hazards and participating in safety training.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships across all staff levels, attending training sessions and meetings to contribute to the overall food safety culture.
- Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements, independently suggesting and executing initiatives that enhance production efficiency and work environment quality.
Education
Experience Required
SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Grade 12 education with strong English and mathematical skills.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in maintenance within a production facility.
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to react quickly to minimize downtime.
- Computer proficiency with experience in inventory control systems.
- Knowledge of food processing/manufacturing parts and materials (considered an asset).
- Certification to operate forklifts and pallet jacks (considered an asset).
- Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting.
